Are Solar Systems Successful in Pakistan?

There is indeed a lot of scepticism in the minds of the consumers due to lack of knowledge on part of players who are in the market to make a buck and run. Such companies and individuals have not been able to deliver up to the expectations of the customers and thus have resulted in the concern.Solar systems require careful planning to cater to the different needs of each individual, organization  or Institution. If planned carefully solar systems are supposed to last more than 25 years.

How much roof space is needed for a solar electric system?

Depending on requirement, 1 kilowatt of PV will require approximately 85 square feet of roof space. So, a 4kW solar system will require approximately 340 square feet space.

Do I need to change the wiring of my home office or factory to accommodate a solar system?

Simply No! A correctly and professionally designed solar system does not require anyone to change their existing wiring but is connected to the already installed cables. If there are special requirements to distribute the loads then alternate wiring plans can be designed and installed. In most cases there will be no requirement of changing the existing laid cables and wires.

What kind of maintenance does a solar system require?

Cleaning / Washing  the solar plates with water a few times a year is a good idea but not strictly critical. Most good solar designers have factored the effect of seasonal dust on your projected system output over time. Occasional visual inspection of the plates is wise in order to identify any serious soiling of the array such as significant bird droppings or other types of opaque soiling. Checking the integrity of mechanical and electrical connections.

How long will a solar system last?

The main component of a solar system, the solar modules, are typically warranted for 25 years but have a design life of over 25 Years. There are modules still operating today that were manufactured in the 1970’s.

Solar Systems Cost a lot of money, is it worth the investment?

Solar systems’ pricing has fallen by almost 50% in the last three years needless to say there still is an investment that is needed to setup a solar system. With the rising cost of energy and fuel specially in Pakistan, The pay-back time on the investment has sharply fallen. A typical Grid Connected system has a pay-back of under 2.5 Years, which is an ROI of 40%.
